Vienna - Restaurant Suggestions

Favourites

1516 Brewing Company Craft brewery with excellent beer and pub snacks. We got corralled by accident once in their patio, which is just set up on the sidewalk, but you can’t walk through it! It turned out to be a very happy accident.

Schnitzelwirt Spectacular pork schnitzel. You’ll get a freshly cooked, plate-sized piece of meat with lemon juice, and it will be amazing. Two people can easily share one order. Sides are extra. They don’t have much for vegetables., but that's not what we're here for. Have a beer, too, because you're on vacation.

Public Transportation

Vienna's public transportation system is excellent. Buses, trams, and underground trains run every few minutes so you are hardly waiting at all.

You can buy your pass or individual tickets on their website or through their app. Their route planner is linked here, though routes are always searchable through Google Maps as well.

Optional Extras

Our days will be pretty packed, and you may wish to spend the evenings relaxing in a restaurant bar or on a patio with a book. If you’re still feeling keen to take in more, here are some suggestions for you.

From Airbnb Experiences:

Classical Concerts at Mozart’s House – This intimate venue is only open for concerts. 90 minutes, Tuesday-Sunday evenings.

Wine Tasting in a Roman Wine Cellar – Evening events start at 5:00 p.m. and last two hours. Tuesday-Saturday only.

Spooky Vienna Ghost Tour – Extremely limited availability for this 90-minute tour; Fridays only, if at all!

Other city attractions:

There are regular classical music performances in many of Vienna’s cathedrals. I’ll watch what’s available and we can choose one for one of our evenings.

Once it gets close to dark, you may want to head back to the film festival at Rathausplatz and watch the movie that’s playing for free.

Engage one of the horse-drawn carriages that can be found around the city for a ride. They are pricey, starting at about $80 for a 20-minute ride (per carriage, not per person), up to $160 for an hour, also depending on where you are starting and where the carriage is going. If you really want to spend money, you can book a tour including wine and food for anywhere from about $460 and up!
